Wrap Up Warm
What is the best way to keep warm during the cold, frosty, snowy winter days?
We have all heard about the 'layering' system where we wear a number of light, warm layers which we can add to or remove as our body temperature changes throughout the day but is this really the best way for photographer to keep warm?
The short answer is - No it isn't, continue reading to learn just how to wrap up warm this winter and keep yourself out, taking great images when the others have long since retreated indoors.

Basic Event Photography
And now for something completely different .......................
As a change from my usual landscape and wildlife work I recently photographed an engagement party and thought it would be interesting to talk a little about my experience and the techniques I used. Event photography requires a completely different skill set to those of the landscape or wildlife photographer, skills which we might not use all the time but should we get asked to photograph an event then its always good to know how to go about it. It involves using a flash, now I know not everyone is comfortable using a flash, some will run a mile at the thought of it while other will claim to only use natural light but read on as I take you through the basics of using a flash.

A Day Trip To Morecambe
One thing I have learned about landscape photography is to ignore the weather forecasts, if you plan to go out just go and then adapt to the conditions as you find them.
I recently headed over to the sea side town of Morecambe to photograph the boats moored there in a beautiful sunset - as forecast by the Met Office. Well they were wrong yet again, we had a sunset but I wouldn't describe it as beautiful but I came home with some really nice images all the same, not the ones I intended to come home with but I adapted to the conditions.

Lancaster Cathedral Trip
Lancaster Cathedral was the location chosen for my first photographic trip after my heart attack and bypass operation. After being out of action for 3 months it was exciting to be back out with my camera but also a little scary at being so far from home should something go wrong. Being inside would keep me out of the cold wind and rain while at the same time the amount of walking I would need to do would be minimal - both factors to take into consideration during my convalescence.
My friend and fellow photographer Ashley Barnard was with me 'should' I need assistance but it still didn't stop me from feeling apprehensive.

Every year the small town of Lytham on the Fylde coast hosts a proms weekend out of all proportion to its size, the event draws 1000's pf people in to the seaside town enjoy some great live music being played on its famous Lytham Green next to its iconic windmill. In previous years the weather hasn't always appreciated the splendour of the event and has showered the revelers with plenty of cold, wet and windy weather and this year even the great Tom Jones couldn't prevent the rain from falling but a great time was had by all.

Rebellion - Punk Festival, Blackpool.
Every year Punk Rockers from the UK and further afield descend up on Blackpool for a weekend of concerts and to meet up with old friends. While they have some serious partying to do, we as photographers have a great opportunity to photograph some really amazing people.

We have waited a long time for summer to arrive but now its finally here I'm making the most of it by working my way through my photographic 'To Do' list. A list of images I have previously researched locations for and the best time of year for the correct lighting, at the top of my list was Clevedon Pier. This has been at the top of my list for a few years now but due to adverse weather I haven't yet managed to get the images I wanted.
This year I made the trip, did I get the images?

Down In The Woods
Spring is here at last and new life is starting to abound - trees have blossom and new leaves, animals have young, birds have chicks, the countryside is filling with insects AND the flowers of spring are with us once again. I took a trip down to the woods yesterday to photograph the bluebells and had an unexpected but wonderful encounter.
